The YCA selects its 80 participants from high school-aged students who have auditioned live or by recording. It is recommended that singers in the vicinity of audition sites schedule a live audition. Students accepted into the Youth Choral Academy are expected to be participants in their school music program.

Auditions by Tape/CD

Audition recordings are accepted beginning January 1, 2004. Deadline: March 12. For your reference, here are the four steps to do a tape audition:

1. - Print out or re-create the audition information form. Complete this form and secure a letter of reference from your choral director or voice teacher.

2. - Plan carefully to make a high-quality recording. Use a well-tuned piano and good recording equipment. Use a best-quality cassette recording tape or transfer to a CD. Label the cassette and its container clearly with the following information: Name, Town or City, State, School, Voice Part. Listen to the tape after you have recorded it to ensure that all elements of the audition are included.

3. - On the tape, record the following: Clearly state your Name, Town or City, State, School, Tell which voice part you prefer to sing. Perform steps A through F listed on the audition requirements page.

4. - Include your form and letter of reference in an envelope with your audition tape/CD. Clearly address the envelope as indicated below. Write your return address as well.

Note that recorded audition material must be postmarked by March 12.
